In an age of ubiquitous computing and ever-increasing connectivity, how can the profession of architecture evolve and adapt to a constantly shifting technological landscape? How can architecture schools take on a more proactive leadership role within the discipline and develop curricular initiatives that fully engage with the dramatic transformations occurring in practice? This symposium, organized by the School of Architecture at the University of Minnesota College of Design, seeks to explore innovative responses by both practice and academia to the question of how digital technology can be utilized in processes of design, collaboration, fabrication, and construction. A group of leading architects, consultants, thinkers, teachers, and makers will convene to discuss computation’s role in design and practice—and how architectural education can adapt to a world of increasing technological flux.

Building on Knowledge: Theory and Practice
Griffith University is pleased to be hosting the 46th Annual Conference of the
Architectural Science Association (formerly ANZAScA) Conference from
November 14th to 16th, 2012. The 2011 Conference, "Building on
Knowledge: Theory and Practice" will feature a two day conference on the 14th
and 15th November, with each refereed paper presented in person by the
author either as a poster or as an oral presentation. Site visit activities are
planned for Friday 17th. The conference will be organised around a
combination of plenary, parallel, and poster presentations, with keynote
presentations each day at selected times. A welcome drinks evening (Tuesday)
and a conference dinner (Thursday) will round out a busy program. The
Conference will continue to draw attention to the applied research purpose of
ASA (ANZAScA) and its place in relation to both the teaching and practice of
architecture and related disciplines. The conference recognizes that the
theoretical and practical knowledge base that underpins architecture is of
necessity cross-disciplinary; and for this reason paper submissions from
associated disciplines and areas of knowledge are particularly encouraged.
Conference theme: Building on Knowledge: Theory and Practice
Specific areas include, but are not limited to:
• Architecture and the environmental
• Construction, materials and technology
• Urban and landscape studies
• Design education and computing
• Thermal comfort, lighting and acoustics
• Buildings and energy
All abstracts and papers will be reviewed double-blind refereed by the
Editorial Board. Selected papers will be published in a special issue of
Architectural Science Review.

The conference website will be operational from mid April and is being
hosted by Griffith University.
OCPMS will again be used to manage abstract and paper submissions.
Conference fees have not yet been finalized but will be kept as low as
possible to facilitate broad participation. Early registration will be
open up to mid October.

The aim of the Nexus Conferences
There are many connections between architecture and mathematics: mathematic principles may be used as a basis for an architectural design, or as a tool for analyzing an existing monument; architecture may be a concrete expression of mathematical ideas, becoming, in a sense, “visual mathematics”. The purpose of the Nexus conference series is to bring together all those working with ideas related to both architecture and mathematics, and to allow researchers to exchange ideas first-hand. Papers presented at the conference are subsequently published, providing a permanent archive of studies in architecture and mathematics.

The Sixth Annual USC BIM Symposium

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS / PAPERS
The PRACTICAL BIM 2012 conference in Los Angeles will engage a full spectrum of issues related to BIM in architecture, engineering and construction.  The conference theme this year is on "Practical BIM" as a foil for the 2011 conference theme of "Extreme BIM."   Papers and presentations featuring current,near-future, and real-world issues are encouraged.  Papers on the subject of BIM that are not directly related to the conference theme will be considered for special sessions at the conference, and will also be considered for the conference proceedings. Papers and session proposals will be blind peer reviewed. Final papers will be distributed. The previous conferences have attracted 300+ participants.

PAPERS
Papers due April 23.  Papers will be peer-reviewed.  Final papers are due May 30.  There will be a conference proceedings.  Papers by those unable to attend will be reviewed for inclusion in the conference proceedings.  DOC or PDF files please.  Use blind-peer-reviewed paper submission standards.  Omit author names in DOC or PDF files.   Papers should be submitted in single column format, double spaced, one-inch margins all around.  Images should be threaded with the text and clearly referenced and captioned.  While there is no maximum paper length for submission, many papers for “Practical BIM 2012” are anticipated to be concise and shorter than traditional conference papers.  Paper submission by authors unable to attend the conference will be reviewed for inclusion in the conference proceedings.  Please indicate that you are unable to attend when you submit the paper.  These papers will receive equal review consideration, but we do not want to reserve a conference presentation position for an author who is not planning to attend.  Conference presentations are 15-18 minutes in length, followed by a brief question period.  Authors receive complementary conference registration.

Markus Kayser - Solar Sinter Project

Neste experimento, o designer alemão Markus Kayser utiliza a luz do sol e areia ​​como energia e matéria-prima respectivamente, para produzir objetos de vidro por meio de um processo de impressão 3D, que combina a energia, materia e a alta tecnologia de produção. Recentemente, Markus fixou seu estúdio na cidade de Londres, onde discute oportunidades de produção utilizando arte, ciência e engenharia, campos de conhecimento que ele julga aparentemente separados, mas na realidade, de conexão intrínseca.

O experimento foi parte da pesquisa desenvolvida por Markus no Royal College of Art, em Londres, durante o Curso de Mestrado em Design de Produto.
